Himax and Vuzix Announce Prescription-Ready AR Glasses Optical Reference Design at CES 2026

Himax Technologies, a supplier and fabless manufacturer of display drivers and other semiconductor products, and Vuzix Corporation, a supplier of AI-powered smart glasses, waveguides, and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies, announced a new optical reference design for AR glasses.

The design combines Himax’s HX7319FL color sequential Front-lit LCoS microdisplay with Vuzix’s high-efficiency waveguide technology. It supports lightweight AR glasses with prescription lens compatibility and includes standardized, scalable manufacturing readiness for the optical module and mechanical design.

The reference design is being showcased at CES 2026, held January 6-9 in Las Vegas. It provides ODM flexibility with configurations from a 30° field of view (FOV) to brightness exceeding 1000 nits in a compact, power-efficient setup.

Himax’s HX7319FL LCoS microdisplay features a 720 × 720 resolution integrated into a projector module of 0.34 cubic centimeters and 0.79 grams, allowing for sleek designs suitable for extended wear.

Vuzix’s push-pull prescription-ready waveguide accommodates high-index glass options, features an ultra-thin 0.35 mm plate architecture, and supports scalable nanoimprint lithography (NIL) manufacturing in glass and plastic substrates.

The integrated solution offers OEMs and eyewear manufacturers a pr...
