Littelfuse Launches TPSMB Asymmetrical TVS Diodes for 12V Automotive Battery Reverse-Polarity Protection

Littelfuse, has released the TPSMB Asymmetrical Series TVS Diodes, consisting of four part numbers: TPSMB2412CA, TPSMB2616CA, TPSMB2818CA, and TPSMB3018CA.

The series is designed for 12 V automotive battery anti-reverse protection and provides asymmetrical clamping with positive clamping voltages of 24–30 V and negative clamping voltages of 12–18 V.

Each device delivers 600 W peak pulse power dissipation, response time below 1 ns, and ESD protection up to 30 kV. The diodes are AEC-Q101 qualified and operate across a junction temperature range of -65 °C to +175 °C.

The asymmetrical design allows the use of lower-voltage-rated MOSFETs or diodes compared to symmetrical bi-directional TVS solutions. One TPSMB device replaces multiple Zener or TVS diodes in the protection circuit.

Applications include domain and zonal controllers, body control modules, infotainment and lighting systems, ECUs, power seats, motor pre-tensioner safety belts, and ADAS systems.

The devices are packaged in surface-mount DO-214AA (SMB) format and supplied in tape-and-reel quantities of 3,000 units.

Charlie Cai, Director Product Marketing at Littelfuse, stated: “The TPSMB Asymmetrical Series delivers the industry’s first single-component...
