STMicroelectronics Outlines Automotive Industry Transformation at IAA Mobility 2025, Highlights E-Mobility and Software-Defined Vehicle Innovations

During a keynote at IAA Mobility 2025, Jean-Marc Chery, President and CEO of STMicroelectronics, discussed the automotive industry’s transformation, driven by e-mobility, software-defined vehicles, and a shifting global market landscape, particularly with China’s growing influence. STMicroelectronics, as a semiconductor integrated device manufacturer, detailed its contributions through technology delivery, collaboration, and supply chain resilience.

The automotive sector faces complexity from trade tensions, tariff disputes, and evolving relationships between carmakers and semiconductor providers. Two primary drivers are the rise of battery electric and hybrid vehicles, expected to dominate light vehicle sales by decade’s end if affordability, usability, and safety are met, and the shift to software-defined vehicle architectures, requiring new hardware and software design approaches.

STMicroelectronics contributes in three key areas:
1. **Technology Delivery**: Providing solutions for carmakers, focusing on sensors, power electronics, and embedded processing. MEMS sensors capture data on movement, acceleration, temperature, and more, with integrated AI enabling real-time vehicle responses. ST has proposed acquiring NXP’s MEMS business, pending reg...
