Europe’s Smartphone Market Declines 9% in Q2 2025 Amid Eco-Design Regulations, Canalys Reports
Canalys, reported that smartphone shipments in Europe (excluding Russia) fell 9% year-on-year in Q2 2025 to 28.7 million units, making it the worst-performing smartphone region globally. The decline was attributed to restrained consumer demand, a cautious economic outlook, and the implementation of EU eco-design and energy efficiency regulations in late June 2025.
Samsung maintained its lead despite a 10% year-on-year decline, shipping 10.3 million units for a 36% market share, impacted by the exclusion of the Galaxy A06 from EU markets due to eco-design regulations. Apple, in second place, saw a 4% decline to 6.9 million units, holding a 24% market share, supported by consistent iPhone 16 series performance despite a reduced portfolio. Xiaomi, third-ranked, also declined 4% to 5.4 million units, with a 19% market share, bolstered by over 50% growth in Italy. Motorola’s shipments dropped 18% to 1.5 million units, securing a 5% market share, while HONOR grew 11% to 0.9 million units, holding a 3% share. Other vendors collectively shipped 3.7 million units, down 22%, with a 13% market share. The top five vendors accounted for 87% of the market.
