Omdia report identifies Nokia, ZTE, and Ericsson as leaders in private 5G market
Omdia’s recent analysis of nine end-to-end private 5G network infrastructure vendors names Nokia, ZTE, and Ericsson as the top three in the market. The assessment evaluates vendors based on their maturity, market committment and ability to provide full-stack solution for enterprise needs across various industries.
Private 5G networks are shifting from basic connectivity to integrated solutions for complex vertical markets. Early market entry has often led to product maturity and competitive advantages, but evolving enterprise demands are changing the landscape. Vendors must focus on strategies such as combining private 5G with Wi-Fi, targeting mission-critical networks, specializing in specific industries, or integrating edge computing and AI.
The private 5G market has posed challenges for vendors and service providers. Efforts to establish tier 2 and 3 distributor models have been unsuccessful, leading vendors to rely on a small number of focused partners instead of broad distribution channels. Vendors that failed to align information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) from the start faced difficulties. Success requires integrating IT and OT early in the process.
