FocalPoint and STMicroelectronics collaborate on GNSS solution for automotive applications

FocalPoint, a UK-based software company specializing in positioning solutions for automotive, wearables, and smartphones, has announced a collaboration with STMicroelectronics. The partnership aims to provide automotive OEMs with a solution that improves GNSS reliability and accuracy for navigation, supporting safer autonomous vehicles.

The collaboration integrates FocalPoint’s S-GNSS Auto software, which uses Supercorrelation technology, with STMicroelectronics Teseo devices, known for high performance and multi-constellation support. The combined solution enhances GNSS performance in challenging environments like urban canyons and forested roads, where signal interference impacts accuracy. Delivered as a firmware update to Teseo devices, S-GNSS Auto is designed to be cost-effective and easy to implement.
GNSS provides absolute location data for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and the solution allows automakers to extend hands-free driving capabilities beyond open-sky conditions. The collaboration follows FocalPoint’s recent investment from GM Ventures and partnership with General Motors.
