Qualcomm Finalizes Deal to Acquire AI Software Company Modular

Qualcomm has completed its acquisition of Modular, a company known for AI-native software infrastructure. Modular's platform gives developers a single way to optimize and deploy generative and agentic AI workloads across heterogeneous computing systems, meaning setups that combine different types of processors, like CPUs, GPUs, and specialized AI chips, working together. Paired with Qualcomm's existing strength in high-performance, energy-efficient computing, the acquisition is meant to strengthen Qualcomm's ability to offer complete AI solutions.

 

Qualcomm says the deal will help expand its AI platforms across a wide range of areas, including devices, data centers, edge infrastructure, and both personal and industrial AI applications. In turn, the acquisition gives Modular's technology greater reach, connecting it to more developers, enterprises, hardware platforms, and markets than it could access on its own. Qualcomm says Modular will keep its commitment to an open ecosystem that works across different types of hardware, including CPUs, GPUs, NPUs (neural processing units built specifically for AI), and custom chips, while its existing products and brands, Mojo, MAX, and Modular Cloud, will continue under Qualcomm with expanded investment and support.
