Tamil Nadu Signs MoU with Japan's MinebeaMitsumi for ₹1,980 Crore Semiconductor Plant in Tiruvallur
The Tamil Nadu government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japanese company MinebeaMitsumi for a semiconductor plant estimated at ₹1,980 crore to be located in Tiruvallur. On May 19, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay met MinebeaMitsumi Chairman Katsuhiko Yoshida and senior executives at the Secretariat in Chennai to discuss the project. The meeting focused on business collaboration and the company’s proposed engagement in the state.
The delegation included MinebeaMitsumi India Chairman and Managing Director Shoji Shishido, India Business Development Office Head Daisuke Matsuda, Vice President Moka Kiyohara, and Sam George. A post on X by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Office confirmed the discussions regarding the Tiruvallur plant and listed the participants.
Officials stated that the project forms part of the state’s efforts to attract semiconductor and high-value manufacturing investments. The discussions confirmed bilateral engagement and aimed at strengthening industrial cooperation with Japanese firms. The Tamil Nadu government noted coordination across various investment-related initiatives.
MinebeaMitsumi is a Japanese multinational involved in precision manufacturing and industrial technology.
