Ajinomoto Fine-Techno Acquires Gifu Plant Site for ABF Semiconductor Film Production

Japan based Ajinomoto announced that its consolidated subsidiary Ajinomoto Fine-Techno Co., Inc. (AFT) will acquire a new plant site in the Kani-Mitake Interchange Industrial Park in Kani City, Gifu Prefecture. The site is intended for construction of a production facility for Ajinomoto Build-up Film (ABF), an interlayer insulating material used in semiconductor packages.

The acquisition amount is approximately JPY 1.2 billion. A location agreement is scheduled for conclusion in May 2026 and an acquisition agreement in June 2026. Construction is set to begin in 2028, with operations planned to start in 2032.

The new facility will become AFT’s third production base, joining the Head Office Plant in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, and the Gunma Plant in Showa Village, Gunma Prefecture. It is designed to expand production capacity for ABF and strengthen the stable supply system, particularly from a business continuity planning (BCP) perspective by locating it at a distance from the existing plants.

ABF has been in use since its launch in 1999 and functions as the de facto standard interlayer insulating material for semiconductor packages in electronic equipment such as personal computers and game consoles.
