Konica Minolta Launches Lens Polishing Operations at Hachioji Tokyo Site for Semiconductor Inspection Equipment Optical Components

Konica Minolta, Inc. has established a new lens polishing process for optical components used in semiconductor inspection equipment at its Tokyo site in Hachioji and started operations at the end of March 2026. The move forms part of the company’s initiative to expand production capacity in its optical components business for the semiconductor sector.

The company will reinforce the production system at the Hachioji site in addition to its main production site at Osaka Sayama. Lenses polished at Hachioji are transported to Osaka Sayama for final assembly into lens units before shipment. This dual-site approach is intended to enhance supply stability and address growing demand. Konica Minolta develops and manufactures optical components for semiconductor inspection equipment, which is used in semiconductor manufacturing processes. Demand for these components has increased due to rising semiconductor needs for AI and data centers, along with higher performance requirements in semiconductors.

The company’s optical components serve as key elements in inspection systems, where lens accuracy and quality directly affect inspection results. Konica Minolta has identified the optical components business for semiconductor inspection equipment as a growth area and has been working to increase production capacity in anticipation of future demand.
