Molex Completes Acquisition of Smiths Interconnect to Expand High-Reliability Connectivity Portfolio
Molex has completed the acquisition of Smiths Interconnect, a subsidiary of United Kingdom-based Smiths Group plc. The deal marks the largest acquisition in Molex’s history and broadens its offerings in ruggedized custom connectors, contacts, RF components, and optical transceivers designed for harsh environments.
The acquisition adds leading semiconductor test capabilities that complement Molex’s existing data communications and data center solutions, particularly supporting growth in AI applications. It also strengthens Molex’s medical interconnect offerings for Medtech customers. The combined portfolio is expected to support customer applications across aerospace and defense, medical, and semiconductor test industries.
The transaction expands Molex’s global manufacturing footprint to more than 90 plants in 22 countries, providing more localized design and engineering support across North America, Europe, and Asia. This increased presence is intended to improve supply chain stability and resiliency. Molex’s global headcount now exceeds 55,000 employees following the integration.
Joe Nelligan, CEO of Molex, stated that the acquisition expands the company’s portfolio and engineering expertise worldwide, while incorporating Smiths Interconnect’s global team and established customer relationships.
