GlobalFoundries Files Patent Infringement Lawsuits Against Tower Semiconductor Over 11 U.S. Patents

GlobalFoundries announced that it has filed multiple patent infringement lawsuits against Tower Semiconductor Ltd. in the United States. The lawsuits were filed in the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) and the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas. The complaints allege that Tower infringed 11 GF U.S. patents related to high-performance manufacturing process technologies.
 
The patents cover technologies critical to smart mobile, automotive, aerospace, and communications infrastructure applications. The actions seek injunctive relief to block the importation and sale of allegedly infringing products in the U.S., as well as compensation for any lost profits.
 
GlobalFoundries stated that Tower unlawfully used its patented manufacturing process technologies, engaging in unlicensed exploitation of GF’s research and development investments. The complaints claim Tower did not undertake the independent costly, long-term research required to develop these capabilities.
