From Fifth Wave to Agentic AI: Siemens EDA Executive Maps Transformative Path for Silicon Innovation

|

Siemens EDA executive Ruchir Dixit in his keynote address at the IESA Vision Summit 2026 in Bengaluru, outlined a transformative vision for the future of electronics and semiconductor design powered by artificial intelligence. Speaking as Vice President and Country Manager for Siemens EDA India and also in his capacity as Chairperson of the India Electronics & Semiconductor Association (IESA), Dixit described the industry as standing at the cusp of the fifth wave of digital computing, a phase characterized by exponential growth in connected devices, data volumes reaching zettabytes, and systems that are fundamentally software-driven yet silicon-enabled and AI-powered.

Dixit highlighted the rapid evolution of electronics, noting that the number of connected devices has already surpassed the one trillion mark, far ahead of earlier 2030 projections with potential to reach five trillion by the end of the decade. He credited industry veteran Walden C. "Wally" Rhines, former long-time CEO and Chairman of Mentor Graphics (acquired by Siemens in 2017 to form Siemens EDA), for introducing him to S-curve models of technology adoption waves, from personal computers in the 1990s through the internet and mobile eras to the present inflection point.
