India Joins US-Led Pax Silica Initiative to Secure Semiconductor and AI Supply Chains
India gains formal entry into the Pax Silica initiative by formally signing Pax Silica declaration at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, US Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg and American envoy to India Sergio Gor in attendance.
Pax Silica is a US-led initiative launched by the US State Department in December 2025. It involves cooperation among allies on semiconductor design, fabrication, research, and related areas to develop resilient supply chains for semiconductors, AI technologies, and critical minerals. The initiative aims to reduce coercive dependencies, secure global tech supply chains, address vulnerabilities and opportunities in AI supply chains, explore joint investments, protect sensitive technologies, and build trusted digital infrastructure.
Signatories to Pax Silica include Australia, Greece, Israel, Japan, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, and United Kingdom. Non-signatory participants include Canada, European Union, Netherlands, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and Taiwan.
