Tower Semiconductor announced a collaboration with NVIDIA to develop 1.6T data center optical modules using Tower's silicon photonics platform, targeting NVIDIA networking protocols. The company's silicon photonics technology enables optical transceivers capable of 1.6 terabits per second, providing up to double the data rate compared to previous silicon photonics solutions. This increase supports higher bandwidth and throughput for optical connectivity in AI infrastructure deployments.
Russell Ellwanger, CEO of Tower Semiconductor, stated that the company continues to invest in its SiGe and silicon photonics platforms to deliver performance, scalability, and manufacturability for next-generation data center architectures.
Gilad Shainer, Senior Vice President of Networking at NVIDIA, noted that the exponential growth of AI requires new high-speed, scalable networking solutions. He said NVIDIA is working with Tower Semiconductor to advance the ecosystem through next-generation silicon photonics, aiming to improve efficiency in AI infrastructure and accelerate AI applications at scale.
Tower Semiconductor's SiPho platform is designed for high-speed optical interconnects and positions the company as a foundry serving AI infrastructure, data center networking, and advanced telecom markets.
