Viettel Breaks Ground on Vietnam's First Semiconductor Chip Fabrication Plant in Hoa Lac
Viettel Group, Vietnam based state-owned telecom and other core electronics tech conglemorate has officially started construction on Vietnam's first semiconductor chip fabrication plant. The project, assigned by the Vietnam's Ministry of National Defense in line with a Government Resolution, is being carried out by Viettel.
The facility is located in the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park in Hanoi and occupies an area of 27 hectares. It is designed to serve as Vietnam's infrastructure for research, design, testing, and production of semiconductor chips.
This marks the first time Vietnam is developing domestic chip fabrication capability, previously absent despite progress in other stages of the semiconductor process. A complete semiconductor chip product involves six main stages: product definition, system design, detailed design, chip fabrication, packaging and testing, and integration and testing. Vietnam has participated in five of these stages in recent years, but chip fabrication the most complex stage has not been conducted domestically until now.
The plant to support industries including aerospace, telecommunications, IoT, automotive manufacturing, medical devices, and automation.
