In-Space Manufacturing: Aegis Aerospace and United Semiconductors Partner for Semiconductor Production in Low Earth Orbit
Aegis Aerospace Inc. has announced a partnership with United Semiconductors LLC to develop semiconductor manufacturing in space. This follows Aegis Aerospace's recent grant agreement with the Texas Space Commission for an in-space manufacturing platform focused on advanced materials in low Earth orbit (LEO).
Stephanie Murphy, CEO of Aegis Aerospace, stated: “We are thrilled to join forces with United Semiconductors. Together, we will accelerate the in-space manufacturing of essential semiconductor materials, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in space technology.”
The Aegis Advanced Materials Manufacturing Platform (AMMP) is designed to demonstrate manufacturing capabilities in the microgravity environment of LEO. The partnership incorporates United Semiconductors' expertise as a supplier to the U.S. Department of Defense, with the goal of advancing commercialization of in-space semiconductor production. Aegis Aerospace expects this to result in new jobs in Texas and the availability of the service to global customers.
Dr. Partha Dutta, Chief Technologist of United Semiconductors, commented: “United Semiconductors is honored to collaborate with Aegis Aerospace. Our decades of experience in semiconductor manufacturing, including successful experiments aboard the International Space Station, combined with Aegis Aerospace’s e...
