Qualcomm Acquires Ventana Micro Systems for RISC-V Expansion

Qualcomm announced the acquisition of Ventana Micro Systems Inc. The acquisition integrates Ventana’s expertise in RISC-V instruction set architecture development into Qualcomm’s CPU capabilities.

The Ventana team will complement Qualcomm’s ongoing RISC-V and custom Oryon CPU development.

Durga Malladi, executive vice president and general manager, technology planning, edge solutions and datacenter, Qualcomm Technologies, stated that the RISC-V instruction set architecture has the potential to advance CPU technology and enable innovation across products. The acquisition of Ventana Micro Systems marks a step to deliver RISC-V based CPU technology across products.

Balaji Baktha, CEO of Ventana Micro Systems, stated that the team will contribute RISC-V expertise in the development of Qualcomm’s Oryon CPU technology for next-generation products and experiences.
