Tata-Intel Strategic Alliance Targets India Semiconductor Fab, AI PC Scale-Up, and Supply Chain Resilience
Tata Group and Intel Corporation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore collaboration in semiconductor manufacturing, advanced packaging, and the development of AI compute solutions for the Indian market.
The agreement focuses on potential manufacturing and packaging of Intel products at Tata Electronics’ upcoming semiconductor Fab and Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facilities in India, as well as joint efforts to establish advanced packaging capabilities within the country.
The two companies also plan to explore rapid scaling of tailored AI PC solutions for consumer and enterprise segments, leveraging Intel’s AI compute reference designs and Tata Electronics’ Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) capabilities, alongside the Tata Group’s distribution network in India.
The collaboration is intended to support the development of a domestic, geo-resilient electronics and semiconductor supply chain and to address projected growth that could position India among the global top five compute markets by 2030.
Statements from the companies:
N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, stated that the alliance would accelerate efforts to build a robust semiconductor industry in India and enable the delivery of semiconductors and systems solutions for the growing AI market.
