GlobalFoundries Acquires Singapore’s Advanced Micro Foundry, Becomes Largest Pure-Play Silicon Photonics Foundry

GlobalFoundries (NASDAQ: GFS) has acquired Advanced Micro Foundry Pte Ltd (AMF), a Singapore-based silicon photonics specialty foundry.

The acquisition incorporates AMF’s 200mm manufacturing assets, intellectual property portfolio, and workforce into GF. It positions GlobalFoundries as the largest pure-play silicon photonics foundry by revenue.

The transaction expands GF’s silicon photonics production capacity in Singapore alongside its existing U.S. operations, with plans to scale AMF’s platform to 300mm wafers as demand increases. Applications include long-haul optical communications, datacenter interconnects, computing, LiDAR, sensing, automotive, and quantum computing.

GF will establish a silicon photonics Center of Excellence in Singapore in partnership with A*STAR, focusing on next-generation materials targeting 400 Gbps data transfer speeds.

The acquisition supports GF’s roadmap for pluggable transceivers and co-packaged optics for AI datacenters and advanced telecom networks.
