GaN Technology Licensing: GlobalFoundries Secures TSMC 650V and 80V GaN for U.S. Datacenter, Industrial, Automotive Production in 2026

GlobalFoundries entered a technology licensing agreement with TSMC for 650V and 80V Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology.

The agreement accelerates development of GF’s next-generation GaN products for datacenter, industrial, and automotive power applications. It provides U.S.-based GaN manufacturing capacity.

GF is developing a GaN portfolio including 650V and 80V technologies for electric vehicles, datacenters, renewable energy systems, and fast-charging electronics. The solutions target harsh environments with focus on process development, device performance, and application integration.

GF will qualify the licensed GaN technology at its Burlington, Vermont facility, using existing high-voltage GaN-on-Silicon expertise. Development begins early 2026, with volume production starting late 2026.

Téa Williams, senior vice president, power business at GlobalFoundries, stated the agreement reinforces commitment to innovation and differentiated technologies for power devices in datacenter, automotive, and industrial applications. The licensed GaN technology accelerates next-generation GaN chip development for mission-critical power applications.
