Embedded World 2025: Qualcomm to acquire EdgeImpulse, a edge AI software company

At the on-going Embedded World 2025, Qualcomm entered into an agreement to acquire EdgeImpulse, a end-to-end software solutions provided to implement edge AI in IoT embedded systems for range of applications. Examples of implemenations include keyword spotter, voice/speech recognition, object detection in robotics and also some automotive applications, motion detection and many more. EdgeImpulse' software can enable today's MCUs to run domain specific AI models directly onboard.

EdgeImpulse says it's objective is to democratize machine learning on edge compute for millions of developers. It's software solution offers one-click deployment to many types of hardware, from MCUs to CPUs, GPUs, and NPUs by automating various AI related tasks such data collection and model training. EdgeImpulse claims it has community of 170,000 developers.

This acquisition helps Qualcomm customers using Qualcomm Dragonwing platforms to get improved/better support in using EdgeImpulse software. Well, what about user of Qualcomm competitor chips, EdgeImpulse says we’re continuing support for edge hardware from our wide partner base, including MCUs, CPUs, GPUs, and NPUs.

Qualcomm is competing with well established players in embedded systems market such as NXP, STMicroelectronics and Renesas and lot more smaller companies. Qualcomm said in its release "This acquisitio...
