Mitsubishi Electric and ITRI Partner on Megawatt-Class Power Conversion Systems for Renewable Energy
Mitsubishi Electric, through its sales company Mitsubishi Electric Taiwan Co., Ltd., has entered a basic agreement with Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) to develop high-voltage, high-current power conversion systems (PCSs) utilizing high-efficiency power semiconductors. The collaboration focuses on converting electricity from renewable sources like solar and wind power.
The partnership combines Mitsubishi Electric’s advanced power semiconductor modules and marketing capabilities with ITRI’s expertise in efficient high-voltage, high-current electricity conversion. The objective is to create a megawatt-class PCS prototype for demonstration testing. Mitsubishi Electric and its Taiwan subsidiary aim to expand their power semiconductor module business by providing design information and demonstration test results to PCS users. ITRI will supply Taiwanese PCS manufacturers with design documents and test results to support product development.
The initiative responds to the global rise in renewable energy adoption and the growing demand for megawatt-class PCSs to handle large-scale systems, such as mega-scale photovoltaic installations, amid the push for decarbonization. Mitsubishi Electric’s power semiconductor modules, known for reliable performance in harsh conditions, are widely used in renewable energy applications w...
