Global 300mm Fab Equipment Spending to Hit $374 Billion by 2028 Amid AI Demand and Regionalization

Global 300mm fab equipment spending is projected to total $374 billion from 2026 to 2028, according to SEMI’s 300mm Fab Outlook report released today at SEMICON West. The forecast highlights the impact of fab regionalization and rising AI chip demand for data centers and edge devices, alongside efforts to enhance semiconductor self-sufficiency through localized industrial ecosystems and supply chain restructuring.
The report indicates that global 300mm fab equipment spending will exceed $100 billion for the first time in 2025, reaching $107 billion, a 7% increase. Investments are expected to grow 9% to $116 billion in 2026, 4% to $120 billion in 2027, and 15% to $138 billion in 2028.Ajit Manocha, President and CEO of SEMI, stated that the semiconductor industry is undergoing transformation driven by AI-enabled technology demand and regional self-sufficiency efforts.
These factors are fostering advanced supply chains and accelerating the deployment of next-generation semiconductor manufacturing technologies to support data centers, edge devices, and the digital economy.

Segment Breakdown
The Logic & Micro segment is expected to lead with $175 billion in investments from 2026 to 2028, primarily driven by foundries expanding sub-2nm capacity. Advanced technologies like gate-all-around (GAA) architecture and backside power delivery are critical fo...
