SoftBank's Graphcore Commits £1bn to Bengaluru AI Semiconductor Hub, Targets 500 Jobs Amid India Tech Surge
Graphcore, a wholly owned subsidiary of SoftBank, is set to establish a new AI Engineering Campus in Bengaluru, with an investment of up to £1 billion over the next decade, creating 500 new semiconductor jobs. The campus will serve as a key hub for Graphcore’s efforts in advancing Artificial Intelligence (AI) computing, aligning with SoftBank Group’s vision to become a leading provider of artificial super intelligence platforms. Graphcore is immediately starting to hire for the first 100 AI semiconductor engineering roles in India, including positions in silicon logical design, physical design, verification, characterization, and bring-up.
The expansion is supported by SoftBank Group’s ongoing investment in Graphcore, which is expected to reach £1 billion per annum in the next couple of years. This funding will also facilitate a doubling of Graphcore’s UK headcount to approximately 750 people, with a focus on hiring for highly skilled roles in silicon engineering, software, and AI engineering. Since acquiring Graphcore in 2024, SoftBank has announced several AI compute infrastructure initiatives, including the $500 billion Stargate infrastructure project in partnership with OpenAI and Oracle.
