Nokia and KONGSBERG Partner to Advance 5G and 6G Defense Communications for Tactical Operations
Nokia and Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KONGSBERG) announced a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on tactical communications solutions for defense forces and allied nations. The partnership combines KONGSBERG’s expertise in military tactical communications with Nokia’s capabilities in 4G, 5G, and private wireless technologies to develop secure, resilient, and high-performance networks.
The collaboration focuses on simplifying 5G deployment in tactical systems to enhance battlefield communications reliability and interoperability. It includes exploring tactical 5G capabilities, integration with unmanned systems and sensors, and participation in European Defense Fund initiatives, such as 5G COMPAD and the Federated Advanced Cyber Physical Test Range (FACT) program. The companies will also investigate future technologies, including Nokia’s 6G “network as a sensor” (Integrated Sensing and Communication) to improve situational awareness and military readiness.
