ChipFoundry Boosts Custom Semiconductor Chip Design with Efabless Asset Acquisition

Umbralogic Technologies LLC, operating as ChipFoundry, has acquired Efabless’ intellectual property and technology assets, including 15 issued patents and 3 pending applications. The acquisition enhances ChipFoundry’s platform, which focuses on making custom silicon chip design and manufacturing accessible through affordable prototyping, standardized design templates, and a collaborative ecosystem. This ecosystem supports product innovators, startups, researchers, and educational institutions.

The acquired assets will be integrated into ChipFoundry’s operations, aiming to accelerate its chip creation platform and expand its reach. The company, built on the success of open-source silicon, has a community of over 10,000 members and has facilitated more than 600 fabricated chip designs. 

Jeff DiCorpo, CEO, leads ChipFoundry’s strategic vision, while Mohamed Kassem, CTO, oversees technical initiatives, and Samir Patel, CSO, develops market and partnership strategies. DiCorpo stated that the acquisition is a step toward building a comprehensive chip design platform, enabling innovators to turn ideas into physical chips. The integration will enhance upcoming prototype shuttles in September and November, streamlining the chip creation process for users.
