India’s Semiconductor Push Gains Speed: PM Modi Opens SEMICON India 2025 with Global Chip Focus
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated SEMICON India 2025 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi, emphasizing India’s role in the global semiconductor landscape. Addressing over 20,000 participants, including delegates from 48 countries, 50 global CXOs, and 1,275 booths, Modi stated that the world trusts and believes in India to shape the semiconductor future, likening chips to “digital diamonds” compared to oil’s “black gold.” He highlighted India’s innovation and youth presence at the event, which runs from September 2 to 4.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw presented the made-in-India chip, the Vikram 32-bit processor (ISRO designed) and 20 chips designed by students and manufactured by SCL Mohali to PM Modi. Vaishnaw underscored the convergence of semiconductor ecosystem stakeholders, including equipment, chemical, gas, and material manufacturers.
Ajit Manocha, President and CEO of SEMI, stated that India’s semiconductor industry growth aligns with “Modi’s law,” reflecting rapid expansion akin to Moore’s Law, driven by AI advancements and global recognition of India’s potential.
