North American EMS Shipments Fall 4.1% in July 2025, Bookings Climb 7.9%, Says Global Electronics Association
Global Electronics Association released its July 2025 North American Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) Statistical Program findings, reporting a book-to-bill ratio of 1.23. North American EMS shipments in July 2025 decreased by 4.1% compared to July 2024 and by 5.1% compared to June 2025. Year-to-date shipments through July were down 0.6% year-over-year.
EMS bookings in July 2025 rose 7.9% year-over-year and increased 13.4% from June 2025. Year-to-date bookings grew by 1.5% compared to the same period in 2024. Shawn DuBravac, the Association’s chief economist, stated that the increase in bookings, despite declining shipments, indicates customers are placing more orders as delivery patterns stabilize.
The book-to-bill ratio of 1.23, calculated by dividing the value of orders booked over the past three months by sales billed during the same period, suggests demand exceeds supply, pointing to potential sales growth over the next three to twelve months. The Association notes that month-to-month comparisons are affected by seasonal factors and short-term volatility, and significant trends in the book-to-bill ratio require at least three consecutive months of change. Analyzing both bookings and shipments is necessary to understand ratio shifts.
