Lip-Bu Tan to Receive 2025 Phil Kaufman Award for Semiconductor Industry Contributions

Lip-Bu Tan, CEO of Intel Corporation and former CEO of Cadence Design Systems, will receive the 2025 Phil Kaufman Award for his contributions to Electronic System Design (ESD). The award, presented by the Electronic System Design Alliance (ESD Alliance), a SEMI technology community, and the Council on Electronic Design Automation (CEDA) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), will be conferred at a ceremony on November 6 in San Jose, California.

Tan is recognized for his leadership and impact on the Electronic Design Automation (EDA) and semiconductor industries. Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli, a professor at the University of California at Berkeley and prior Kaufman Award recipient, noted Tan’s role in anticipating technology trends and fostering innovation across the semiconductor value chain. Ajit Manocha, SEMI President and CEO, highlighted Tan’s oversight of EDA advancements at Cadence and his support for SEMI and the ESD Alliance in promoting industry collaboration.

Walden Rhines, former CEO of Mentor Graphics (now Siemens EDA) and a previous Kaufman Award recipient, emphasized Tan’s advocacy for EDA through industry forums, educational initiatives, and support for startups.
