Intel and LG Innotek Partner for AI-Driven Smart Factory in Precision Manufacturing
Intel is collaborating with LG Innotek, a South Korea-based leader in materials and component manufacturing, to implement an AI-powered smart factory at LG Innotek’s Gumi facility. The initiative leverages Intel Core processors, Intel Xeon processors, Intel Arc GPUs, and the OpenVINO software toolkit to enable a comprehensive inspection process for producing components used in cellphones, automotive displays, and other smart devices.
LG Innotek, which has previously utilized rule-based and deep learning-based inspection systems at specific production line terminals, aims to achieve a fully automated manufacturing process with AI integrated across all stages. In 2024, discussions with Intel led to the development of an AI-powered inspection solution. Data from the production line is processed by PCs equipped with Intel Core CPUs for defect analysis, while Intel Arc discrete GPUs handle heavier workloads, such as running algorithms on high-resolution images. Accumulated datasets are sent to pre-training servers powered by Intel Xeon processors, with plans to incorporate Intel Gaudi AI accelerators for future pre-training tasks.
