Murata Launches Chennai Facility for Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors
Japanese passive component leader Murata has initiated operations at its first Indian facility in OneHub Chennai Industrial Park, Tamil Nadu, focusing on packaging and shipping multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs). The 3,500-square-meter rental factory, leased for $6.6 million over five years with a handover in February 2025, marks Murata’s entry into India’s manufacturing sector, with plans to scale up operations by fiscal year 2026. The facility aims to support the company’s strategy to gain operational experience in India and prepare for potential future manufacturing expansion.
Murata, holding around 40% global market share in MLCCs, supplies components for smartphones, automotive, consumer electronics, and IoT devices.
Tamil Nadu Industries Minister TRB Rajaa announced the facility’s launch on August 8, 2025, noting its alignment with the state’s goal to expand electronics exports to $100 billion. Rajaa highlighted Tamil Nadu’s shift from assembly to high-value component manufacturing.
