Infineon Completes Buying of Marvell’s Automotive Ethernet Business for $2.5 Billion, Enhancing SDV Capabilities
Infineon Technologies AG completed the acquisition of Marvell Technology, Inc.'s Automotive Ethernet business on August 14, 2025, following the transaction agreement announced in April 2025 and receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals. The $2.5 billion all-cash deal, financed through existing liquid funds and additional debt capital secured from banks, integrates Marvell’s Brightlane Automotive Ethernet portfolio, including PHY transceivers, switches, and bridges, into Infineon’s Automotive division, establishing a new “Ethernet Solutions” business line.
The acquisition enhances Infineon’s expertise in software-defined vehicles by combining Marvell’s Ethernet portfolio, which supports data rates from 100 Mbps to 10 Gbps with security and safety features, with Infineon’s microcontroller and system capabilities. Ethernet technology enables low-latency, high-bandwidth communication for components like microcontrollers, processors, and sensors, critical for software-defined vehicle E/E architectures and applications such as humanoid robots. The acquired business serves over 50 automotive manufacturers, including eight of the top ten OEMs, with a design-win pipeline of approximately $4 billion by 2030 and an expected revenue of $225–$250 million in 2025, with a gross margin of around 60%.
