GlobalWafers America LLC, the U.S. subsidiary of GlobalWafers Co., Ltd., has entered into a new supply chain partnership with Apple to enhance U.S. semiconductor manufacturing. The collaboration focuses on increasing demand for 300mm advanced silicon wafers produced at GlobalWafers’ primary facility in Sherman, Texas.
These 300mm silicon wafers are critical components used by foundries and integrated device manufacturers to create advanced, mature-node, and memory chips. These chips are integral to a wide range of products, including home appliances, automobiles, infrastructure, computers, AI applications, and Apple’s iPhone and iPad devices.
GlobalWafers America is the only global manufacturer of advanced 300mm wafers participating in the Trump Administration’s CHIPS for America Program, which aims to bring critical semiconductor material production back to the U.S. Mark England, President of GlobalWafers, stated that the partnership with Apple signals a robust return of the semiconductor supply chain to the U.S., reversing decades of production moving to lower-cost manufacturing hubs.
Doris Hsu, Chairwoman of GlobalWafers, noted that the company’s silicon wafers will be used in Apple’s iPhone and iPad products, supporting the partnership’s goal to advance American semiconductor manufacturing. Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, Sabih Khan, highlighted that the partnership aligns with Apple’s $600 billion commitment to U.S. investment over the next four years, emphasizing job creation and innovation through its American Manufacturing Program.
The partnership leverages recent policy changes under the Trump Administration, including an expansion of the Advanced Manufacturing Investment Credit to 35% through the One Big Beautiful Bill and a streamlined CHIPS for America Program. These measures have facilitated investment in semiconductor manufacturing, enabling GlobalWafers America to collaborate with Apple and its first-tier chip suppliers to supply high-quality silicon wafers.
GlobalWafers Co., Ltd., the world’s third-largest supplier of semiconductor wafers, operates 18 manufacturing and operational sites across three continents and nine countries, delivering advanced technology solutions to major chip manufacturers globally.
