Mitsubishi Electric Supplies Traction Systems for Dutch Double-Decker Trains, Bolstering Rail Innovation
Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has started supplying traction systems to Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles, S.A. (CAF) for 60 Double-Decker New Generation (DDNG) trains, totaling 300 cars, operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS), the Dutch railway company. Deliveries began in July 2025.
The company will also provide traction systems for 266 trains, comprising 1,006 cars, by 2031. This includes equipment for 206 Sprinter New Generation (SNG) trains, totaling 706 cars, supplied through contracts awarded by CAF in 2015 and 2019. These SNG systems have been in commercial operation since 2018, contributing to safe and reliable rail operations in the Netherlands, which influenced CAF and NS’s decision to select Mitsubishi Electric for the DDNG trains.
Additionally, MEDCOM Sp. Z o.o., a Polish railcar traction system manufacturer and Mitsubishi Electric capital partner since 2015, secured a contract to supply auxiliary power units for the DDNG trains. Mitsubishi Electric continues to collaborate with MEDCOM to expand its customer network in Europe.
The company aims to support safe and reliable railway operations in the European market moving forward.
