SEMI NBMC Launches RFP for Biosensing Platforms in Defense, Healthcare, and Environmental Monitoring
The Nano-Bio Materials Consortium (NBMC), a SEMI Technology Community, issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) on August 1, 2025, to develop integrated biosensing platforms for human performance enhancement, industrial bioprocess monitoring, and environmental threat detection. The initiative, in collaboration with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), focuses on advancing technologies in defense, healthcare, industrial bio-innovation, and environmental monitoring.
The RFP seeks proposals addressing advanced materials, power management, edge computing, biosignal sensing, user interface technologies, real-time industrial bioprocess monitoring, and bio-inspired sensors for detecting environmental threats. Topics were identified through NBMC’s strategic technical gap analysis. Projects aim to increase the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) of proposed solutions, ranging from high-risk innovations to enhancements of existing technologies.
Selected projects will receive funding between $250,000 and $750,000. Proposals will be evaluated based on technical rationale, innovation, budget realism, collaborative value, dual-use applicability for commercial and Air Force/Department of Def...
