MicroLED Market Surges as Beneq Secures Repeat Orders for ALD Technology
Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) semiconductor equipment maker Beneq reports increased demand for its solutions in the microLED display market, driven by repeat orders from leading technology companies. MicroLED technology, noted for its high brightness, contrast, energy efficiency, and durability, is gaining traction in consumer electronics, AR/VR, and automotive applications due to its ultra-fine pixel resolution, scalability, and extended device lifespan.
Industry projections from Yole Group indicate global microLED display shipments will grow at a 180.6% CAGR from 2022, reaching 42.4 million units by 2029. However, challenges in scaling pixel sizes below 10 micrometers while ensuring uniformity, stability, and manufacturability persist. ALD technology addresses these issues by providing precise, ultra-thin conformal coatings for surface defect passivation, sidewall protection, transparent conductive oxides, and final passivation, enhancing device efficiency and reliability.
Mikko Söderlund, Head of Semiconductor ALD Sales at Beneq, stated that ALD enables the integration of microLEDs and driver electronics on a single chip, supporting smaller, more efficient display products with faster data transfer and lower power consumption. Beneq’s Transform® ALD cluster platform supports this progress with its multi-chamber design, offering modularity and ...
