Andes Technology Unveils AutoOpTune v1.0: Genetic Algorithms Boost RISC-V Software Optimization

Andes Technology, a provider of 32/64-bit RISC-V processor cores and a Founding Premier member of RISC-V International, has released Andes AutoOpTune v1.0, a tool designed to automate software optimization by fine-tuning compiler options. The tool targets performance and code size optimization for software developers using Andes RISC-V processors.

AutoOpTune leverages genetic algorithms to analyze over 280 compiler options, identifying configurations that align with user-defined goals, such as maximizing performance, minimizing code size, or balancing both. It features an intuitive interface that allows developers to set optimization goals, visualize trade-offs through distribution diagrams, and apply optimal settings to build configurations without manual iterations.

Benchmark results show notable improvements across AndesCore RISC-V processors. In code size reduction mode, embedded and audio workloads achieved up to 18% size reduction compared to GCC’s standard optimizations. In performance mode, SPECint2006 benchmarks recorded up to 37% performance gains over GCC’s highest optimization level. Balanced mode yields improvements of 5%-10% in both metrics, supporting faster load times, lower memory usage, and reduced power consumption in resource-constrained environments.

Available as a licensable plugin for AndeSight v5.4, AutoOpTune supports...
