European Semiconductor Sector Urges Strategic Investments in EU’s 2028-2034 Budget Framework
SEMI, the European Semiconductor Industry Association (ESIA), the Global Electronics Association (formerly IPC), and the European Association of Automotive Suppliers (CLEPA) convened a roundtable in Brussels with representatives from the European Commission and national governments to discuss semiconductor policy measures aimed at strengthening Europe’s industrial ecosystem.
The 2023 European Chips Act has provided measures to enhance the competitiveness and technological capabilities of Europe’s semiconductor industry. Building on this, the roundtable emphasized the need for the 2028-2034 Multi-Annual Financial Framework (MFF), the European Union’s long-term budget, to include strategic investments in manufacturing, research and development (R&D), supply chain resilience, and access to critical raw materials.
Laith Altimime, President of SEMI Europe, highlighted the discussion’s focus on developing a new European semiconductor strategy to boost technological capabilities and accelerate innovation across the ecosystem. He expressed intent to continue engaging with the European Commission to ensure the MFF supports the semiconductor industry’s role in technological advancement.
