Materion Expands Semiconductor Market Presence with Tantalum Manufacturing Acquisition in South Korea

Materion Corporation  has completed its acquisition of manufacturing assets for tantalum solutions in Dangjin City, South Korea, from Konasol, as announced on May 29, 2025. The transaction includes a newly constructed facility with specialized equipment for producing fully finished tantalum sputtering targets, used in semiconductor chip production for high-performance computing and artificial intelligence applications.

The acquisition expands Materion’s global footprint with a new facility in Asia, aimed at supporting and servicing Tier I semiconductor customers in the region. It increases Materion’s capacity to supply critical deposition materials, reinforcing its role as a supplier of tantalum targets for the semiconductor industry.

Jugal Vijayvargiya, President and Chief Executive Officer of Materion, stated that the acquisition enhances the company’s ability to serve global semiconductor customers and strengthens its position in deposition materials. Materion, headquartered in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, employs over 3,000 people worldwide and serves customers in more than 60 countries.
