SkyWater Technology Acquires Infineon’s Fab 25, Expanding U.S. Semiconductor Foundry Capacity
SkyWater Technology has announced it has completed its acquisition of Infineon Technologies AG’s 200 mm semiconductor fabrication facility, Fab 25, in Austin, Texas. The transaction adds approximately 400,000 wafer starts per year to SkyWater’s capacity, enhancing its U.S.-based pure-play foundry operations. Fab 25’s capabilities support embedded processors/MCUs, memory, mixed signal, RF, and power applications, strengthening SkyWater’s advanced technology services.
The acquisition converts Fab 25 from a captive integrated device manufacturer facility to an open-access foundry, expanding domestic manufacturing for industrial, automotive, and defense applications. This move establishes SkyWater as the largest U.S.-based pure-play foundry provider, offering dual-sourced 200 mm foundry capacity at foundational nodes. The transition aligns with U.S. Department of Defense supply chain security mandates and supports national efforts to strengthen the semiconductor supply chain by transforming captive U.S. facilities into open-access infrastructure.
SkyWater CEO Thomas Sonderman stated that the acquisition advances supply chain resilience and supports U.S. competitiveness in critical technologies for industrial infrastructure, defense systems, and transportation industries. Fab 25’s capabilities include copper processing, high-voltage tec...
