Continental Establishes Advanced Electronics & Semiconductor Solutions Organization
Continental’s Automotive group sector has created a new Advanced Electronics & Semiconductor Solutions (AESS) organization to design and verify automotive semiconductors to meet internal demand. This initiative supports the sector’s transition to becoming an independent company, Aumovio. GlobalFoundries (GF) has been selected as the manufacturing partner to produce these semiconductors.
The AESS organization aims to address the growing demand for semiconductors in software-defined vehicles, with the global automotive semiconductor market projected to reach approximately 110 billion Euros by 2032. The fabless semiconductor unit will focus on developing application-specific semiconductor circuits, with production handled by GF, a manufacturer with a global footprint across the US, Europe, and Asia, serving industries including automotive and IoT.
Philipp von Hirschheydt, member of the Continental Executive Board and CEO of the future Aumovio, stated that the AESS organization will reduce geopolitical risks and increase self-reliance in semiconductor development, strengthening Continental’s position in the automotive industry.
Niels Anderskouv, president and chief operating officer at GF, noted that GF’s automotive-qualified process technologies and global manufacturing capabilities will support Continental in delivering semiconductor soluti...
