Telstra, an Australian telecommunications company, and Nokia announced a partnership to provide developers with access to network APIs through Telstra’s muru-D Labs. The collaboration uses Nokia’s Network as Code platform with a developer portal, offering a mix of live and simulated network APIs to support the creation, testing, and deployment of applications for enterprise and industry use cases.
The initiative focuses on applications such as managing network traffic during large events, enhancing network observability, and prioritizing critical services. It will also explore Fixed Network use cases by integrating APIs from Nokia’s service orchestration software deployed at Telstra. The partnership aligns with Telstra’s Connected Future 30 strategy, which emphasizes “Network as a Product” to deliver flexible connectivity and new business models.
Kim Krogh Andersen, Group Executive Product & Technology at Telstra, stated that the collaboration supports Telstra’s goal of enabling developers to create responsive applications by accessing network capabilities. Shkumbin Hamiti, Vice-President at Nokia, noted that the partnership aims to integrate Telstra’s network into developer ecosystems, offering choice, flexibility, and security.
Telstra plans to host a local hackathon later in 2025, providing developers with access to live network APIs and a sandbox environment. The collaboration builds on an existing partnership between Telstra and Nokia and supports Nokia’s strategy of connecting API ecosystems through its Network as Code platform, which has over 50 partners, including operators, hyperscalers, and software vendors.
