Karnataka approves three semiconductor projects

Karnataka’s Cabinet Sub-Committee, chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, approved three semiconductor projects on Thursday 29th May of 2025 to strengthen the state’s position in the global semiconductor industry. The initiatives, announced in a statement, involve investments totaling over ₹18,000 crore and are expected to create more than 3,500 jobs.
Applied Materials India will establish a Research and Development Fab, named the Innovation Center for Semiconductor Manufacturing (ICSM), in Bengaluru. The facility, spanning 10 acres with an investment of ₹4,851 crore, will focus on chip and display innovations and is projected to create approximately 1,500 jobs.
Lam Research will set up two facilities in Karnataka. The first is an advanced R&D lab with an investment of ₹6,790 crore, and the second is a semiconductor silicon component manufacturing unit with an investment of ₹9,111 crore. These projects, focusing on 2nm technology and silicon ingot production, are expected to generate around 1,400 jobs.
Bharat Semi Systems will establish an integrated design and manufacturing semiconductor unit in Mysuru, with an investment of ₹2,342 crore. The facility will produce compound semiconductors, including thermal detectors, silicon carbide, and gallium nitride, for applications in defense, telecom, and climate resilience, creating over 620 jobs.
