Zeon and Sino Applied Technology partner to expand single-walled carbon nanotube conductive paste production
Zeon Corporation and Sino Applied Technology (SiAT) signed a strategic partnership agreement in Taoyuan, Taiwan, to expand production of single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) conductive paste for next-generation lithium-ion batteries. Zeon will lead a $20 million Series C funding round for SiAT to increase its production capacity, with additional investment from Taiwanese venture partners.
The partnership aims to meet growing demand for lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles, drones, EVTOL aircraft, AI server backup battery units, renewable energy storage systems, and automated robotics. SWCNTs improve battery energy density and cycle life due to their electrical conductivity, mechanical strength, and chemical stability compared to traditional conductive agents like carbon black or multi-walled carbon nanotube slurries.
Zeon, the first company to mass-produce SWCNTs in 2015, uses its Super Growth technology to manufacture ZEONANO, an SWCNT product with high aspect ratio, purity, and surface area. The production process involves high-temperature chemical vapor deposition, requiring precise control of catalysts and reaction conditions. SiAT contributes expertise in battery nanomaterials, addressing SWCNT dispersion challenges by enabling uniform integration into electrode slurries.
Since 2024, the collaboration has produced two SWCNT conductive pastes: LSC210...
