“I'm thrilled to honor this year’s Dr. Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award recipient, esteemed industry luminary, Rick Tsai,” said Jodi Shelton, GSA CEO. “This recognition is the utmost honor within the GSA, exclusively awarded to distinguished and influential individuals in the realm of semiconductors and associated ecosystems. Tsai has consistently served as a trailblazer and prominent figure in our industry. His remarkable business acumen and the high regard he commands within the semiconductor industry has left a significant imprint, making a substantial impact.”

In 1999, Morris Chang, chairman and chief executive officer of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (TSMC), was bestowed with the first GSA "Exemplary Leadership Award," marking the inception of this prestigious accolade. Presently, the Dr. Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award serves as a commendation for individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the semiconductor industry. Notably, MediaTek has the privilege of having two of its leaders, including Chairman MK Tsai, receive this esteemed recognition in 2015.

“The past few years have proved how pivotal semiconductors are in keeping us connected and driving innovation throughout the entire technology ecosystem. My vision has always been to make great technology more accessible, and it’s been remarkable to see this come to fruition over the course of my career,” said MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai. “I am deeply honored by this recognition from industry leaders, and I am truly proud of what the MediaTek team and TSMC, as well as Taiwan’s fabless industry, have achieved over the years.”

Under Tsai's leadership, MediaTek has become a dominant player in various market segments, such as smartphones, smart TVs, and connectivity. The company has achieved record revenue and is dedicated to investing in cutting-edge technologies, including edge AI and automotive, to explore new opportunities. Tsai has been instrumental in driving MediaTek's expansion in Asia, as well as making significant strides in North America, Europe, and Japan, cementing the company's position as a major player in the semiconductor industry. Additionally, Tsai has spearheaded environmental initiatives through corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, committing to powering all of MediaTek's global offices with 100% renewable energy by 2030 and achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

Tsai, who obtained his bachelor's degree in physics from National Taiwan University in Taipei, has a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from Cornell University. In 2017, he joined MediaTek after serving as the Chairman of Chunghwa Telecom and the President and CEO of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).
