MoC between India and Japan for mutually beneficial resilent semicon supply chain

Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) signed on July 2023 between India and Japan on Japan-India Semiconductor Supply Chain Partnership is approved by the Union Cabinet in recognition of the critical role of semiconductors in the digital-driven industry growth.

This MoC covers both government to government and business to business collaboration in advancing resilient semiconductor supply chain and leverage complementary strengths and enhancing collaboration between Japanese and Indian companies in the semiconductor sector. This partnership to work on mutually beneficial semiconductor related business opportunities and partnerships between India and Japan.

Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has launched various programs to support robust and sustainable electronics manufacturing, development of semiconductor device and display manufacturing ecosystem in India. Government has extended fiscal support for establishment the semiconductor and display fabrication plants covering compound semiconductors/silicon Photonics/sensors/discrete semiconductors and Semiconductor Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP)/Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facilities. Exclusive India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) is working on to drive India's strategies for development of semiconductor and display manufacturing ecosystem in the country.

MeitY is also working with other organizations/agencies in other countries of the world to promote bilateral cooperation and exchange of information and also to ensure supply chain resilience enabling India emerge as trusted partner.

Based on the ongoing India-Japan Digital Partnership" (IJDP) and India-Japan Industrial Competitiveness Partnership (IJICP), this cooperation agreement to further broaden and deepen the cooperation in the field of electronics ecosystem.
