Indian PC market: Notebook grew 2% whereas desktop a massive 70% y-o-y growth in 2nd Q 22
India's PC shipments which also includes tablet computers grew by 12% in the second quarter of 2022 to reach 4.6 million units, as per the latest study by market researcher Canalys.

The market fell below the 5 million units mark for the first time in four quarters. Notebooks continued to be the largest category, with 2.6 million units shipped, up just 2% year-on-year due to stifled demand in the consumer segment. However, desktops witnessed a massive 70% year-on-year growth, with a record-breaking 900,000 units shipped in Q2 2022. Shipments of tablets increased by 9% year-on-year, reaching 1.1 million units.

“As schools across India reopened, consumer demand diminished,” said Canalys Analyst Ashweej Aithal. “The consumer market had a sharp dip of 12% in Q2, ending seven consecutive quarters of record expansion. In Q2, the segment accounted for 48% of the Indian PC market, down from 61% in Q2 2021. Reduced demand for tablets and notebooks contributed to the consumer market decline, with shipments of the two categories down 23% and 11% respectively. HP maintained its dominance in this sector with a 23% market share, helped by aggressive retail outlet expansion across the nation.
