Massive 217% shipment-growth of TWS audio in India in 2Q22
While the global shipment of smart personal audio fell by 1.7% year-on-year in second quarter of 2022, where as in India the same device shipment grew hugely by 55%, this is according to latest findings from market researcher Canalys.
The shipment of these devices in US is down by 1% and in China its down by a big 13%. True Wireless Stereo (TWS) was the only smart personal audio category to grow, recording 8% growth at 63 million units, finds Canalys. India is the key driver behind the TWS growth. India registered a growth rate of 217.9% in shipment of TWS in 2Q22 with a global share of 11%.
“Without India’s impressive growth, the global TWS market would have gone into a decline,” said Canalys Analyst Ashweej Aithal. “India’s massive appetite for smart personal audio devices is for local and global players to tap into. But vendors must rethink their strategies in this highly competitive market in an increasingly challenging economic environment.” boAt led the TWS market in India with a 47% market share, while Noise and OPPO (including OnePlus) made up the top three, both recording triple-digit growth, at 508% and 583% respectively.
Although shipment has rised globally, TWS market value is down by 2.9%, indicating some other key market factors not as positive as shipments.
