A 300mm fab needs lithography scanners and clean silicon,  but it also needs cranes, orbital welders, HVAC engineers, gas-line specialists, contamination-control instruments and, eventually, trade-secrets lawyers. Semicon India 2026 made an unusually strong case that the biggest opportunity for many Indian engineering and services firms sits outside the chip itself.

It is easy, walking a semiconductor trade show, to assume the opportunity belongs entirely to VLSI designers and process engineers. The reality on display at Yashobhoomi was broader: fabs and OSAT facilities are, first and foremost, extraordinarily demanding pieces of industrial and mechanical infrastructure, and a meaningful share of the week's most concrete commercial wins went to companies whose core competence has nothing to do with chip design.
Concrete, cranes and welding
The most visible evidence sat at Dholera itself. One attendee who toured the site during the event counted roughly 45 to 50 cranes still active on civil works , a plain reminder that a semiconductor fab, at this stage of its life, is primarily a very large construction project. Into that project, INOX India secured its first orbital welding contract for ultra-high-purity piping work at the Tata Electronics fab, marking the company's entry into specialised semiconductor infrastructure and process-support s...
